In this class you will be concentrating on making design elements that will be the focal point in your art project. You will be working in two areas, one will be with the glory hole (a furnace) to make murinni and latticino and the other will be in the kiln making geometric patterns generated by multiple firings.
Murinni is made by composing a bundle of glass strips, fusing them then working them in the glory hole and then pulling them out into a short rod.
Latticino is done in a way very similar to the murinni but this time it's twisted as it is being pulled into a rod.
The other technique is strip fusing for geometric patterns. You will fuse strips of System 96 glass that are laid up on their edge. After these are fused they will be cut with a glass cutter and repositioned to form a new design. You will be going out to three generations to achieve a complex combination of designs.
This technique is not necessarily the end product in itself but an important addition to the final fused project.

Among the technical aspects to be covered will be the annealing process when working with such thick glass slabs and how to cut them with a glass cutter.
Bring your glass cutting tools, if you have them, and safety glasses if you don't already wear glasses.
